"INTERNET OF THINGS" - The Changing Face of Digital Marketing.

My recent talk on "INTERNET OF THINGS" - The Changing Face of Digital Marketing held on 30th November 2013 at DMIC - Digital Marketing India Conference @ International School of Telecom, Technology and Management, Hyderabad.

The Art of Baby Bathing…

This time i have displayed Nriti's picture which i have captured at my home when she is less than 2 months old at "Reflections" 2013 @ State Art Gallery, Hyderabad.
Like a chore, bathing seems like another activity engrained in our routine. But a new life as precious as this makes it ceremonious, meticulous and worth capturing. That fear of testing new waters, the relief when it is done cannot be written or said but only felt.

(Santhu, Me and Nriti @ Gallery)
Thrilled with the feedback which i have got from our chief guest Vicky Roy and all other photography friends that they liked this capture the best.  Some of them suggested me to send this for international photography competitions and will plan to do that. You really feel happy when you print, frame and display in the photo exhibition.

My Dad is a new Android User and my observation

My dad lost his Iphone3 recently in a vegetable market. We have all the bills and serial numbers and filed a police compliant. Surprisingly there is a separate huge mobile lost register in the police station and our details were entered but "No Luck".

Got his new duplicate SIM card and given my old Nokia N70 for time being. I noticed that he has lot of difficulty using "Key Pad Phone" with smaller display. He told me that i don't want this "Stupid Buttons". He is a Retd. Govt officer and 63 years old (point tobe noted). I started observing his user behavior very carefully on the "mobile phones" interactions and asked him to play around with My wife's Sony Ericsson and Mom's Samsung Flip Phone and other couple of old phones which are again not "Touch" interface and not "Big Screens". Finally, i have given him my Iphone 4 and he is really comfortable and i noticed "happiness" in his face.

This made me thing more from "User Experience" perspective and nailed down to 4 primary questions.
1) Is he happy with the IPhone "Ease of Use" ?
2) Bigger Screen & Size of the phone?
3) Touch Interface?
4) Apple Brand?

I have asked him to goto a mobile store and play around with all latest mobile phones in the market. He explored multiple mobile phone including Iphone 5, HTC, Samsung, BalckBerry, etc. and finally told me that he like the white phone with Bigger display but expressed that all good  mobiles are damm expensive and above INR -25,000/-. His feedback on Samsung Tablet Phone was "That this don't fit in my pocket" and "Har to Hold" and this not a decent size. Finally as is an existing user of IOS- Iphone3 from almost 2 years, He suggested me to give my Iphone4 for him and you buy a new phone of your like. I was bit curious why my dad is more lean towards Iphone.

After couple of days, on his birthday i have gifted a surprise with a brand new "Samsung Galaxy Duo" white phone. I wanted to observe all his reaction, emotion, excitement and exploration of "Android" as he is using for the first time and an interesting user segment . He was super exited with the new gadget with bigger screen and without a key board. As you guys aware this is an upgrade from Iphone3 to Android. In the past he used to ask me to download multiple apps like Talking Tom, Solitaire etc. With the super excitement  placed his SIM card and stated exploration how to use it. I was bit curious and want him to explore himself and just guide him only if he has some basic questions. He connected to wifi and watched you tube videos, Google around and sent text messages.

My dad is very exited with android than apple and tweaking / swiping all the apps and trying out. Surprisingly i have noticed next morning he is explored skype and also made some viber calls to his friends. When i asked do you love Apple or Samsung, He replied that Apple is also good but i am loving the Samsung Big Screen, More display, White Color and i can do my task easily. He told vibrantly that i want more contacts, videos, music, browse internet for emails, text, and able to see the my recent history and easy to call or end calls.

I think "Excitement" "Emotions" "Happiness" "Ease of Use" "Look N Feel" "Size" "Effectiveness" plays a key role for any product success. I am sure my dad will teach me about new apps, features and feedback in shortly.. :) I am really super exited watching this as a son who is an User eXperience Professional.

The Story of "US"

Whenever you are telling the story of your group or team connect with the lives of your teammates who were part of the it. Strongly emphasize on the points that will arouse the emotional connect.
Use words like ‘we all’, ‘us’ and everyone rather than ‘I’, ‘me’ and 'myself'. Give due credit to the members of your team and the audience will gauge your level of contribution without your self-proclamation.

Conduct yourself as an honest and open person. Your tone must make the audience feel your advocacy of ‘you cannot do it alone’.

Facebook user types and user behaviors

The 11 TYPES OF USERS & USER BEHAVIORS ON FACEBOOK -
This is very interesting to know this, i am sure we all have one or more of these types of friends on our list. Try to compare your friends list in Facebook and see which type they belongs..

1) The "ROOSTER" –Feels that it is their job to tell Facebook "Good Morning" every day.

2) The "LURKER" –Never posts or comments on your post, but reads everything, and might make reference to your status if they see you in public. ...

3) The "HYENA" –Doesn't ever really say anything, just LOLs and LMAOs at everything.

4) "MR/MS POPULAR" –Has 4,367 friends for NO reason!

5) The "COLLECTOR" –Never posts anything either, but joins every group and becomes fans of the most random stuff.

6) The "PROMOTER" –Always sends event invitations to things that you ultimately delete or ignore.

7) The "LIKER" –Never actually says anything, but always clicks the "like" button.

8) "DRAMA QUEEN/ KINGi" –This person always posts stuff like "I can't believe this!", or "They gonna make me snap today!", in the hopes that you will ask what happened, or what's wrong...but then they never finish telling the story.

9) The "NEWS" –Always updates you on what they are doing and who they are doing it with, no matter how arbitrary, and LASTLY...

10) The "THIEF" –Steals status updates... and will probably steal this one.

11) The "POSTER" - wants to post hundred of pics in just one day!

Pen Innovation

Came across some interesting pen concept. Its designed based on technology called its called "Recorder". This magic pen that converts your written notes into electronic files and then transfers it to your phone and computer via Bluetooth. We would love to write and sketch lot of things on paper every and imagine if that whole content / illustration get converted aromatically and digitalized and transfers automatically into our phones and computers... I bet every one love this idea and this is an awesome great idea.

Not sure about the spell check but i wish its auto corrects using a inbuilt dictionary. This concept is designed by Xia Xiaoqian, Renming Jun, Han Ricoeur, Liu Peng, Meng Bao, Weicheng Jie & Yang Xiao

My design career started with Apple Macintosh Classic.

I started learning computers & design career with Apple Macintosh Classic. One of my fav computer is Macintosh Classic which was released in 1990, which was 5% faster than MAC SE. I like all the features of some applications like Alarm clock, Calculator ,Chooser (for picking a printer), Notepad, Control Panels, Key Caps, Puzzle, Scrapbook and Ipaint.

It was a great fun recently for me being a matured product designer to play around and explore the black & white old application interaction design @ University of Texas, Art Museum. Some how i am in love with apple from the day i have interacted with Apple Macintosh Classic for the first time and still today, i'm loving it...

FlashMob Dance with Kids on Christmas Day!

Hundreds of children come out of their houses along with their parents to celebrate Christmas, tiny tots snuggled cozily in their parents arms. However, there is other side to this reality. Reality of hundreds of kids who are not so lucky, who do not have parents, kids who are orphans, kids who are homeless, kids who are disadvantaged. Yes - there are a few Samaritans, who make a point to visit them and distribute toffees and sweets on such occasions. But does that make them feel better ? We don't know. So, we thought of turning the story around ~ Instead of we visiting them, we thought why not get them out of their orphanage and allow them to celebrate with the world outside ... in their own style.

It was an amazing experience, the kids are so lovely.. We had great time...! And here is how we did it ..experience this..!

This is organized by Lectures For Good and People behind this project are Preeti Pooja, Tania Dey, Ravi Kumar, Chandra Sekhar Singh, Rama Viswanatha, Nivedita Narsapur, Paritosh Prahraj, Sultan, Ranjeet Kumar Tayi & others who supoorted this event.

Steve Job - you are real innovator, a great designer and creator, we feel connected to someone who is also a designer and visionary. You have given new path & many products which made revolution and made people life simpler. You are the one who made people aware of design & its importance how "smart" a product can be. I am avid MAC user and started my career on MAC for learning Photoshop in the year 1998. Google's seamless advertising User Experience Strategy makes big bucks!

In most cases advertising is a killer USER EXPERIENCE in the web context many time. It is very difficult to craft experiences between the context with revenue generating advertisements. In general, most users really hate advertisement as it deviates the context. Google is one example who has mapped seamless user experiences with context sensitive advertising strategy with tiny advertisements (PAY FOR CLICK MODEL). Do you know one thing, Google 97% revenue is from Advertising.

Google is now making $3 billion a month in advertising, the majority of which comes from little text ads next to search results. That's wonderful right? Guess who is spending this huge bucks?
The answer, according to Larry Kim — the founder of a company that sells software to analyze text ad campaigns — is in industries where a customer is worth a lot of money over the long-term.

Wordstream, kim's company analyzed search terms that advertisers pay and grouped 10,000 by industry, using its own software. They have multiplied Cost Per Click - what advertisers pay to Google for some one click on the Google Ads - Times the number of times people click on that word.  Look at the beautiful info graphic of the top 20 industry which explains Google stats visually.

The Future of User Interface & Design Technologies

The future if user interfaces - The way we interact with technologies have evolved a lot over the years. Right from the punch cards, typewriters, prints, to monitors, mouses, keyboard, buttons to all the way to the new track pads, voice recognition, multi touch, hand held, gestures and interfaces designed to make it more easier.

Lot of interaction patterns has been changed from "Smaller Vs Bigger"; "Cursor Vs Non Cursor" ; "Less Text Vs More Images"; "More Design Vs Less Design"; "Single Cursor Vs Multi Cursors"; "Vertical Scroll Vs Horizontal Scroll"; "Fixed Layout Vs Scalable Layout"; "Audio Vs Video"; "Remote Vs Gesture" & so on...
